Dear Delegates,

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union over two decades ago, the United States of America has dominated world affairs as both a superpower and a leader, made powerful through a combination of its economic capacity, political influence, and military might. In recent years, however, the stability of this unipolar structure has been challenged by economic downturn and the rise of competing global and regional powers. Simultaneously, the worldwide reach of corporations and other nonstate actors has catapulted onto the global scene, dramatically altering the political climate and threatening the traditional structure of world affairs.

This October, you will find yourself in a unique position to decide the future of the world as we know it. Will the United States be able to retain its position of global dominance? Will the rise of China threaten to return the world to a familiar bipolar structure we thought we left behind? Or will other parties seize power and drive the world in a new direction?

Your actions will determine the path the world will take.

Sincerely,
Sarah Blair and Alexandru Ionescu
Chief Crisis Coordinators
