Published Award Guidelines
Anyone with experience as a Model UN delegate knows that chairs come in all shapes and sizes, and as a result, they can have diverse ways of judging awards. Some chairs look for an uncompromising commitment to realism and penalize any detours away from a committee’s real-world traits; others stress creativity and imagination, even if that means taking liberties with a character’s brief. This phenomenon causes delegates to waste time and energy guessing at how chairs will assess their performance in assigning awards. We feel this is a preventable fault. We have thus asked our daises to include a section in their background guides that describes what they look for in a best delegate. Our hope is to ensure that all delegates in each committee have a thorough understanding of their chair’s expectations, so that they can remain focused on playing their characters with confidence.
