Chair Feedback
At a Model UN conference, delegates spend four days role playing as certain characters in certain committees, and at the end, the chair appraises each delegate’s performance and decides who does, and who does not, receive an award. Simple as that. No questions asked. The lack of transparency in this process can be frustrating for those who come up short because, while getting the message loud and clear that they have room for improvement, they may not know exactly how to improve. At BarMUN V, we will try to correct this flaw in the system by allowing delegates to request direct feedback from their chairs. At the start of the conference, if they elect to do so, delegates will be able to ask their chairs to prepare brief performance reports over the course of the weekend: an appraisal of strengths, weaknesses and tangible ways to improve for future conferences. We will then email these reports to head delegates after closing ceremonies so that delegations can review the comments. Since one of the fundamental objectives of MUN is to hone negotiation skills and strategic thinking, we hope that this will make for a more fulfilling delegate experience.
