ABOUT BARRICADES AND BROTHERHOOD: THE 1871 PARIS COMMUNE

As the Franco-Prussian War drew to a close, it became clear that France would soon be defeated by the North German Confederation. Rising discontent among the industrial workers of Paris, combined with the weakness of the remaining French forces, led the population and the Paris National Guard to establish a new government in the city. Although it lasted only around three months, the Paris Commune became a landmark example of what a dictatorship of the proletariat could look like, inspiring future generations of Socialists worldwide. Delegates in this committee will assume the various administrative roles within the Commune, tasked with establishing ground rules and navigating the urgent challenges faced by the Communards.
