ABOUT THE PIRATE QUEEN: QING-PORTUGUESE NAVAL ALLIANCE (1808)
The year is 1808. Zheng Yi Sao’s pirate confederation dominates much of the South China Sea, commanding more than 50,000 pirates. Concerned about the confederation’s growing power, leaders from the Qing Dynasty and Portuguese naval forces have formed an alliance to confront it. Delegates must navigate the region’s competing interests and political tensions while determining how to respond to Zheng Yi Sao’s influence. The fate of Guangdong and control of the surrounding waters will depend on the decisions made within the Qing–Portuguese Naval Alliance.

Aidan Sweeney
Under-Secretary-General
Class of 2029 | he/him
Aidan is in the class of 2029 at the Boston University Pardee School of Global Studies studying International Relations on the Middle East and Africa regional track with a minor in Urban Studies. He’s originally from San Diego, California.
Aidan is a member of MUN@BU and regularly travels around the circuit competing, almost exclusively in crisis. This was his first experience with Model UN, but he’s gone on to staff BU’s high school conference, BosMUN, and, of course, BarMUN. He’s also a member of the BU Urbanism Club where he advocates for a better built environment for BU students and Boston as a whole. In his free time he loves exploring Boston, watching baseball (Go Padres!!), and playing video games.
Boston is his favorite city in the country and he can’t wait for you all to visit this lovely city for the latest and greatest iteration of BarMUN! He is very excited to be your USG of Crisis for the upcoming conference and can’t wait to see how you all solve the complex and evolving problems faced in committee. Make waves!
