ABOUT THE NORDIC COUNCIL
The Nordic Council, established in 1952, was created to promote regional cooperation and increase the involvement of Nordic countries in global affairs. In the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and the continued conflict, as well as the integration of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden into NATO, the council has been focusing on deeper engagement in international politics and alliances. These developments have raised important questions regarding security cooperation, burden-sharing, defense investments, and funding. In this committee, delegates will work to develop best practices to strengthen cooperation within the Nordic Council, particularly in response to the increasing militarization of the Arctic.
